Traditionally, it has been presumed that supernova remnants were the main source of very-high-energy cosmic rays but theoretically it is difficult to get protons to PeV energies and observationally there simply is no evidence to support the remnants as sources of hadrons with energies above a few tens of TeV.

These are the first limits to constrain gamma-ray emission in the multi-TeV energy range ($>$1 TeV) using passive high-galactic latitude GMCs.

The planar Hall effect (PHE), wherein a rotating magnetic field in the plane of a sample induces oscillating transverse voltage, has recently garnered attention in a wide range of topological metals and insulators.

We associate HAWC J2016+371 with the evolved supernova remnant CTB 87, although its low significance in this analysis prevents a detailed study at this time.

Tunneling-tip-induced collapse of the charge gap in the excitonic insulator Ta$_2$NiSe$_5$

no code implementations15 Dec 2020 Q. He, X. Que, L. Zhou, M. Isobe, D. Huang, H. Takagi

The layered chalcogenide Ta$_2$NiSe$_5$ has been recently discussed as such an excitonic insulator with an excitation gap of ~250 meV below $T_c$ = 328 K. Here, we demonstrate a drastic collapse of the excitation gap in Ta$_2$NiSe$_5$ and the realization of a zero-gap state by moving the tip of a cryogenic scanning tunneling microscope towards the sample surface by a few angstroms.
